On May 8, 2025, the UB School of Criminal Justice and Public Safety (SCJPS) Interns enthusiastically attended a focused seminar-workshop titled “Transform Your Future: Ikigai Life Coaching for Exam & Career Success” held at the FGB Hall. This highly engaging session was facilitated by Dr. Susie Bangles Baldo, a distinguished social scientist, seasoned educator, and advocate for positive mental health. With her deep understanding and passionate delivery, Dr. Baldo introduced the interns to the Japanese concept of Ikigai, which means “a reason for being” or “life’s purpose.”

During the seminar, Dr. Baldo carefully guided the interns through the four key elements that shape Ikigai: what one loves, what one is good at, what the world needs, and what one can be paid for. Through a blend of personal reflections, guided exercises, and real-life applications, she encouraged the interns to explore their own unique Ikigai. She also emphasized how understanding and aligning with one’s Ikigai can lead to greater motivation, productivity, and resilience, especially in the context of career decisions and preparation for board examinations.

Furthermore, the workshop provided a valuable opportunity for interns to reflect not only on their academic and professional journeys but also on their inner values and long-term aspirations. The seminar concluded with Dr. Baldo’s heartfelt message: to always seek purpose and fulfillment, as these are essential in unlocking true happiness and satisfaction in life. The event left a lasting impact on the interns, inspiring them to pursue their goals with clarity and passion.
