On January 31, 2025, the School of Criminal Justice and Public Safety (SCJPS) hosted a Housekeeping Skills Training seminar for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) at the Baguio City Jail Male Dormitory. The resource speaker of the seminar was Ms. Marie Joy Limpin from the University of Baguio School of International Hospitality and Tourism Management (UB-SIHTM), the seminar aimed to equip participants with valuable housekeeping skills while focusing on personality development, enhancing their prospects for employment upon release.
The training covered essential topics such as basic housekeeping techniques, guest service, time management, and personal grooming. By emphasizing both practical skills and personal growth, the seminar not only prepared PDLs for potential careers in the hospitality industry but also contributed to their rehabilitation, supporting smoother reintegration into society. The event was a success, demonstrating the commitment to empowering individuals through education and skill-building.
Housekeeping is an important skill for everyone, not just PDLs. Maintaining a clean and organized environment contributes to health, well-being, and productivity. Good housekeeping fosters discipline and responsibility, which are valuable qualities in both personal and professional settings. These skills are especially crucial in the hospitality industry, where attention to detail and customer service are paramount. By focusing on practical skills and personal growth, this initiative equips PDLs for future job opportunities while underscoring the universal importance of housekeeping as a foundation for a healthy, successful life. The seminar received positive feedback, reflecting a strong commitment to empowering individuals through education and skill development.
