Bachelor of Science in Criminology (BSCRIM)

A degree program that focuses on the study of crime, criminal behavior, and the justice system. Graduates are prepared for careers in law enforcement agencies, security firms, and other related fields.

Program Overview

The program covers various areas including criminological theories, law enforcement, criminal investigation, corrections, criminal justice administration, and public safety. Graduates are equipped with competence in conducting criminological research on crimes, offenders, and victims, with an emphasis on human rights and victim welfare.

The BS Criminology program at the University of Baguio has a strong reputation, being recognized as a Center of Excellence by CHED and has been offered since 1967, making it one of the pioneering programs in the region. The program also integrates the use of criminalistics or forensic science in crime investigation and promotes ethical standards and professional integrity in law enforcement and criminal justice fields.

Program Educational Objectives

Graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Criminology are expected to attain the following within 3 to 5 years after graduation:

  1. Demonstrate professional competence, integrity, and ethical conduct in criminal justice and public safety, upholding the code of ethics of a professional criminologist and exhibiting exemplary behavior in investigative and law enforcement roles
  2. Produce and disseminate criminological research outputs—including peer-reviewed studies or community-based projects—addressing crime causation, criminal psychology, and public safety, integrating film analysis and real-case studies.
  3. Advocate for and actively participate in human rights protection and community service, aligning with the missions of correctional and law enforcement institutions, and leading or supporting advocacy or outreach initiatives.
  4. Pursue lifelong learning and professional development by engaging in workshops, seminars, and public safety training, adapting to evolving laws, jurisprudence, and best practices in criminal justice.
  5. Contribute to the field of law enforcement, with a target of 100% of graduates qualifying for or actively serving in law enforcement, corrections, or related public safety professions.
  6. Promote student and community well-being by supporting initiatives and practices that monitor and enhance health, resilience, and holistic development.

Program Learning Outcomes

A Bachelor of Science in Criminology graduate can:

  1. Conduct criminological research on crimes, crime causation, victims, and offenders to include deviant behaviors;
  2. Internalize the concepts of human rights and victim’s welfare;
  3. Demonstrate competence and broad understanding in law enforcement administration, public safety and criminal justice;
  4. Utilize criminalistics or forensic science in the investigation and detection of crimes;
  5. Apply the principles and jurisprudence of criminal law, evidence and procedure;
  6. Ensure offenders welfare and development for their re-integration to the community.
